Meet Scott Saffold, MD

At Virginia Sinus Center, Dr. Saffold lives his belief that people in all communities have the right to expect technologically advanced, state-of-the-art healthcare.
Dr. Saffold attended the University of California at Berkeley as an undergraduate, and medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. His general surgery internship was completed at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Scott Saffold, MD, is a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology and a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Saffold spent two years as a National Institute of Health Research Fellow at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and participated in developing immune based strategies for the treatment of head and neck cancer.
Dr. Saffold then sought his Otolaryngology training at Oregon Health Sciences University. There he received advanced level training by nationally recognized experts in the fields of:
- Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
- Head and Neck Surgery
- Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- Pediatric Otolaryngology
- Head and Neck Radiology
Dr. Saffold's experience in the field of general otolaryngology
allows him to practice both medicine and surgery, as well as treating both
pediatric and adult patients.
Dr. Saffold spends his leisure time enjoying favorite activities – including running and reading – with his wife, Detra, their son, Jacob and their daughter, Josephine.
Kevin Meakin, DO
Dr. Kevin Meakin is a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist who prides himself on providing focused, patient-centered care. Dr. Meakin believes that actively listening to and acknowledging his patients' concerns plays an integral part in their care. He believes in providing quality health care utilizing a contemporary ENT treatment approach while always putting the patient first.
Dr. Meakin provides patient services in Franklin and Churchland, Virginia. His areas of practice include:

Dr. Meakin received his undergraduate degree from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. He received his medical degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. Dr. Meakin completed his internship and residency training in Otolaryngology-Facial Plastic Surgery through the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Meakin is a Board-Certified Fellow of the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He serves on the Board of examiners for the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Meakin also serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). He lives in Suffolk, Virginia with his wife Nancy and their two children, Cassandra and Matthew.
ENT Practitioner M. Parish Malone, PA-C
Mr. Malone strives to treat each patient with compassion and dignity. His extensive patient care background enables him to skillfully and thoroughly evaluate each patient's particular condition with uncommon clarity and insight.
M. Parish Malone, PA-C, is a Board Certified Physician Assistant licensed in Virginia and North Carolina. He chose Old Dominion University in Norfolk for his undergraduate studies and received his Masters of Physician Assisting (MPA) from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in 2001. He has held his certification (PA-C) continuously since.
Mr. Malone serves as both a clinical preceptor and an Assistant Professor for PA's at the School of Health Professions at his alma mater, EVMS. He is an avid runner and bass fisherman. He proudly serves our country as a member of Virginia's Disaster Medical Assistant Team (DMAT-VA-1)
ENT Practitioner Alexis Britton, PA-C
Mrs. Britton believes in being a dedicated health care provider who recognizes that communication and understanding are key to achieving the goal of providing the highest level of care for her patients.
Alexis Britton is a Certified Physician Assistant and is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Mrs. Britton has had a personal goal of specializing in ENT from the start of her medical education. Originally from Southern California, Mrs. Britton received her Bachelor of Science from California Baptist University and her Master of Science in Physician Assistant studies from Western University of Health Sciences.
As a provider Mrs. Britton works to diagnose and treat ENT and allergy illnesses and is committed to attending continuing ENT education courses so that she can provide the best quality healthcare for her patients.
Mrs. Britton loves to take walks at the park with her husband Amado and her daughter Anastasia. When she is not reading the newest and greatest in ENT journalism, she enjoys reading historical mysteries.
ENT Practitioner Ping Gao, PA-C
Mr. Gao believes that every patient has a right to receive the best healthcare service. Helping patients to make the right decision for their health care, offering the best quality and comfort, and cost efficient health care are the goals of Mr. Gao.
Ping Gao is a Certified Physician Assistant and is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Originally from China, Mr. Gao received his M.D. degree and worked as an ENT Surgeon for 16 years in China. He received his Physician Assistant Master’s Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2005. He has worked as a Physician Assistant in the United States for 10 years. Mr. Gao’s practice includes all fields of general otolaryngology with good skills of ENT clinic procedures. He is very interested in allergy related nose and sinus diseases after receiving special training for allergy illnesses.
In his spare time, Mr. Gao loves going to the gym, swimming and walking outdoors.
Catherine “Cathy” Pearman, MPAS, PA-C
Mrs. Pearman, MPAS, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant (PA) certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants since 1999. Based on experience, educational endeavors and outreach, Mrs. Pearman is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Mrs. Pearman is a “local” from Virginia Beach. She received her Bachelor of Science from Ferrum College and attended the Wake Forest School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program where she obtained her PA Certificate. She earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska.
Mrs. Pearman is a provider dedicated to practicing evidence-based medicine while fully involving the patient in all decision-making. She believes that engaged listening and providing appropriate education are the keys to a successful patient-provider relationship. Her diverse experience and broad knowledge encourage critical thinking.
Mrs. Pearman is also an active educator. She has been a member of the Eastern Virginia Medical School Physician Assistant Program faculty since 2006 and is currently an Associate Professor. She thoroughly enjoys educating medical professionals of all types and being a part of active classroom and clinic learning. She also strives to continually educate herself on medical advances and patient care options.
Mrs. Pearman finds true joy in spending time with her family especially enjoying the many wonderful fine arts opportunities of this region. Her daughters keep her busy with activities that typically involve music, dancing, water, sun and fun.
Collins Boateng, PA-C
Collins Boateng is a physician assistant, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Originally from Ghana, West Africa, Mr. Boateng received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Physician Assistants Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
As a healthcare provider, Mr. Boateng is an advocate for patient education. During each interaction, Mr. Boateng arms every patient with information about their particular medical condition, disease, diagnosis, and why a particular treatment is being administered. His goal is to keep them actively and cooperatively involved in the decision making process, thereby, enhancing patient satisfaction.
When he is not proudly serving his country (as a member of the Virginia Army National Guard since 2008) or at a conference expanding his knowledge base, Mr. Boateng spends his spare time cooking and participating in various outdoor activities: running, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding with his lovely wife.
Dr. Saffold and his staff are wonderful. They go above and beyond to ensure your health and wellbeing. My sinus and allergy issues have significantly decreased and I can say due to their treatment I have a better life. Thank you.
